Preaching a series of sermons on the ten commandments got me thinking about what it might mean for a believer to rightly ‘Honour your father and mother’ after they have died. This was prompted by my belated realisation that quite a proportion of the congregation who were listening to the sermon were in this situation.
I found a very helpful article by the American pastor John Piper on his excellent ‘desiring god’ website – link https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/should-christians-visit-cemeteries
It is, of course, not a definitive answer . For example I feel that, as the psalms quite often express the writer’s anger and bewilderment towards God, the Lord would allow us to do the same; albeit agreeing with John Piper that ultimately faith in God will hopefully lead in time to a deeper trust in his plan and purpose. But hopefully the article is a helpful starting point for peoples thoughts on how we might approach this subject as believers.
