PCC – Church council

St. Andrew’s church council works alongside the vicar to direct our ministry and mission. It is made up of the two church wardens, and 18 other members of the congregation.

Most of its members stand for election/re-election every year; although 3 of the 18  are also chosen to be our representatives on Newcastle Deanery Synod,  and serve for a 3-year term.  It meets six times each year, under the chairmanship of the Vicar, and a standing committee also meets during the intervening months to conduct interim business and plan agendas. In additon to this, the vicar and wardens generally meet together every two weeks.

Most  church council members sit on one of three permanent sub-committees, which report back to the main PCC.

  • Worship Committee – for discussion of developments both to our regular worship and to special services
  • Mission Partners Committee – is responsible for our links with home and overseas mission work
  • Facilities Committee – looks after our existing buildings and site (a separate group taking responsibiity for developing plans & funding for the new hall)

The annual meeting, open to all members of our church electoral roll, includes the yearly elections for the two wardens and other PCC members. There are reports presented too, to complement our annual written submission to the charity commission  – see here
